RITA VANDERVENTER & RABBETT BEFORE HORSES STRICKLAND: Recent Works (August 3–29) — Virtual Exhibition

Visit the Cultural Center to view recent work by Rita Vanderventer and Rabbett Before Horses Strickland. Vanderventer’s 30+ acrylic paintings and mixed media work depict local and exotic wildlife, Ojibwe imagery, and haunting landscapes. This exhibition of Strickland’s recent (2019–2021) large-scale oil paintings features works displayed for the first time, including the very recently completed 12’ x 7’ Birth of a New World, and preparatory drawings that help to contextualize his process.

Reproductions and cards of Strickland’s works and Vanderventer’s birch bark ornaments and beaded earrings are available in our shop!

A IS FOR APOSTLE ISLANDS and ISLAND INTERSECTIONS (June 2–30, 2021) — Virtual Exhibition

This exhibit displays the poetry and visual artwork from two projects celebrating the 50th anniversary of Apostle Islands National Lakeshore (1970-2020). Original visual art and poetry for the ABCs featured in the forthcoming book A is for Apostle Islands (ed. Lucy Tyrrell) is currently on display. In addition the exhibit includes trios of "Island Intersections," i.e., science summaries and the interpretations or responses of visual art and poetry that emerged from 15 science presentations at the Apostle Islands 50th Anniversary Resource Stewardship Symposium held March 30-31. Dozens of artists and poets have collaborated and contributed to this exhibit.

ANNUAL STUDENT ART SHOW by Students from the Washburn School District

The Annual Student Art Show from elementary, middle, and high school artists from the Washburn School District is on view from May 4–23!

Our art gallery, shop, and museum hours this month are:

  • Monday–Friday: 12–5pm

  • Saturday & Sunday: 12–4pm

CULTIVATING RESILIENCE—Thriving Amid Adversity

The CHEQUAMEGON BAY ARTS COUNCIL (CBAC)

April 7—28, 2021

The Chequamegon Bay Arts Council (CBAC) invites you to its annual spring show, this year titled Cultivating Resilience—Thriving Amid Adversity. This exhibition features over 80 unique works created by 34 local and regional artists with prizes and merits awarded by guest judge Ron Piercy (Karlyn Yellowbird Gallery, Washburn, WI). The virtual exhibition below highlights the work of these talented individuals by featuring photos of this year’s show and detailed photographs of every individual work on display in our galleries this month. From The CHEQUAMEGON BAY ARTS COUNCIL

The Chequamegon Bay Arts Council (CBAC) invites you to Un-Gathering at the Washburn Cultural Center, running from November 4–December 26. Held in lieu of CBAC’s annual autumn exhibition/reception, their small works show, and the Cultural Center’s Holiday Bazaar, Un-Gathering features more than 70 affordably priced works—including paintings, sculptures, jewelry, collages, drawings, and textile pieces—from 28 regional artists. Un-Gathering is this area’s premiere location for holiday gifts, especially for the art lovers in your life!

  • If you are unable to attend Un-Gathering in person but would like to purchase any work(s) you see in the virtual exhibition, simply call or email us, and we will work with you and the artist(s) to get your selected work(s) to you!
